About

Not Just Another Music Shop Ltd. was started in 1984 by Robert Friedman and Shane Dyson, at 3938 Main St where the business built up a loyal following of clients. In 1990 NJAMS moved downtown to 1228 Granville St - and for those of you who remember 1228 Granville you probably remember the amount of stuff crammed into a tiny space, guitars everywhere and anywhere. The obvious need to expand drove NJAMS to relocate to South Granville in 1997. At first the sheer size of the store was a little daunting to those loyal NJAMS customers and staff, but in no time the store acquired the traditional feel, with amps in convenient places to trip over.

Not Just Another Music Shop has received much publicity throughout its lifetime. In 1991 it was voted "One of the 10 Best Music Stores' by Details Magazine. In 1997 Canadian Music Trade Magazine did a feature on the store, while the Province simultaneously did a full page article in the Entertainment Section. Not Just Another Music Shop celebrated it's 20th Anniversary at the renowned Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver. This kind of publicity is extremely useful and added to the exposure from artists such as Sarah McLachlan, Bryan Adams, Colin James, Jann Arden, Emmylou Harris, Spirit of the West, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Los Lobos and Blue Rodeo has made the store a worldwide contender in vintage gear.

Not Just Another Music Shop offers a range of services from repairs, restoration, appraisals, lessons, vintage gear rentals and sales in collectible instruments, amps and effects.
