Lessons

Price and Discount:

Not Just Another Music Shop moved to it's current location eleven years ago primarily because we needed more room but also so we could offer lessons. This has proved to be a very satisfying, both for NJAMS and the students.

Because scheduling is always a problem we have teachers available from 10-9 Monday to Friday, 10-6 Saturday and 11-6 on Sunday. There is a large spectrum of teachers available, but if you cannot find the teacher or style you are looking for please feel free to contact us. All you have to do to get started on lessons is to give us a call, we will help you pick a teacher that works for you, and forward your number to the applicable teacher for them to call you to set up a time. There are no minimum time limits. You can take lessons once a week, once every two weeks, once a month etc... We offer half hour lessons as well as hour, but if you want a longer lesson or a shorter lesson please feel free to talk to your teacher.

Payment is due prior to the lesson, most students pay for their lessons in blocks of four, but as that does not work for everyone we offer the one off system. If you have any other questions please feel free to call or e-mail us.

Leo Pedersen - acoustic & electric guitar
Teaching guitar has been my livelihood since 1990. I teach a wide variety of musical styles including rock, pop, classical, metal, jazz, avant-garde, fusion, and world music of India and Bali to students of all ages and abilities. I have been playing guitar since 1984 and I have completed my coursework for a Bachelor of Music Degree at UBC. Currently I am composing, performing and recording with an acoustic guitar trio, an experimental metal band, and with UBC's Gita Asmara Balinese Gamelan orchestra. In addition to playing and teaching I also design my own experimental guitars. In the summer of 2003 I gave the premier performance on my prototype electric guitar on Bali TV in Indonesia as part of the Bali Arts Festival.

Michael Friedman - acoustic guitar
As a teacher, Michael's strengths include acoustic finger styles, theory and an advanced knowledge of alternate tunings and contemporary stylings. Michael studied at one of Europe's finest conservatories in Berlin, toured extensively in Europe and became an established member of an influential international music community. He describes the type of music he plays as "Heavy Wood". Using the acoustic guitar as a textural, harmonic and melodic anchor he takes advantage of its versatility to enable it to become at times a guitar, a drum and a bass instrument, all the while simultaneously supporting his 3 1/2 octave voice. Michael has written for television and film and was, for the last three years of its long life, the musical director for CBC's "Front Page Challenge".

Mark Campbell - electric bass and guitar

A graduate of Vancouver Community College's Jazz Program majoring in guitar, Tim also plays Irish bouzouki and banjo. He has taught guitar for five years, developing students abilities through applied theory, technique, exploring open tunings and learning great slide tunes.
